RAPANUI TENNIS CLUB
There was a large attendance of visitors at the opening of the Rapanui Tennis Club, which took place last Saturday afternoon in ideal weather. Mr. Taiboys, the president, welcomed the visitors and congratulated the club on the completion of the pavilion, which he said was largely owing to the efforts of Mr. R. Burnet and Mr. H. H. En derby. Air. G. Pownall and Mr. W. Marshall also spoke. The president then declared the season formally open and the ceremony was completed when Mrs. G. H. Pownall hit the first ball over the net. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies’ committee, the members of the Rapanui Bowling Club being among the guests. Air. Taiboys expressed the thanks of rhe tennis club to the members of the bowling club for the many kindnesses which had been ext< nded by the bowlers to tennis players prior to the erection of their own pavilion. This was acknowledged by Mr. Handley, president of the bowling club, and Air. W. Morrison, chairman of the Waitotara County Council and also of the Alowhana recreation reserve.
