Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Tong, of Hastings, aro visiting Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. A. Walker, accompanied by Mrs. A. Walker, of New Plymouth, are enjoying a motor tour of the South Island. Miss Lucie Broadhead, Gonvillc, and Mrs. Alan Furrio (Samoa), arc visiting Hawera. Miss Roberts, of Kilbirnie, Wellington, arrived in Wanganui yesterday, and is the guest of Mrs. Papworth, Heads Road. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Quince. Sydney, are visiting Alrs. Quince’s mother, Mrs. Vaughan McDonald, Wanganui. Madame Aileen Johns, of ‘ Deepdene, ” Auckland,' is visiting Wanganui, and is the guest of Mrs C. H. Bowater, Gonville. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Earle, St. John’s Hill, will leave to-morrow for Wellington to spend Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Earle, Lower Hutt. The Rev. H. Lindsay and Mrs. Lindsay, Collegiate School, are visiting Mrs. Lindsay’s brother, the Rev. Grant Cowan, at Auckland, prior to leaving for England. Mrs. Morton, Victoria Avenue, left yesterday to spend Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. R. Lilburn, Mangawcka. Miss Joan McGrath, of the Auckland Hospital nursing staff, who has been on holiday in Wanganui with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. F. McGrath, has returned. Mrs. F. Carpenter, St. John’s Hill, leaves to-morrow to spend Christmas at Te Awamutu. Mrs. A. Nathan, of Taihape, arrived in Wanganui yesterday to spend the holidays with her sister, Mrs. G. W. Hcan. Sir Philip a*id Lady Game, Sydney, are expected to visit New Zealand in February. While in Christchurch they will be the guests of Sir Henry and Lady Wigram. Miss Marie Moffatt, a New Zealand pianist who has been visiting Australia fulfilling broadcasting engagements with the Australian Broadcasting Commission, returned by the Wanganella on Monday. Guests registered at Pipiriki House over the week-end included: Mr. Crawford (Ireland); Mr. Leggatt (England); Airs. Pryce (Australia); Mrs. Brasch (Australia); Airs Static (England); Miss Knapton (Sydney); Dr. Alarion Ravell (London); Aliss Stent (.Kahura); Alessrs. Ward (two) (Tangahoe). Distinguished London musicians, headed by Sir Thomas Beecham, arc organising a performance of Dame Ethel Smyth’s “Alass in D” to be held at th e Albert Hall in honour of the composer’s seventy-fifth birthday. Dame Ethel, who has the perennial youth of Bernard Shaw, has been an ardent feminist in her time. She has great vitality, a keen sense of humour and considerable talent as a writer. Besides writing on musical matters and her career, she published an entertaining book on an unconventional holiday she spent in Greece with her greatniece. Engagement The engagement is announced of Vera, only daughter of Air. and Airs. Alex Campbell, Cumbrae Place, Aramoho, to George, younger son of H. G. and the late Airs. Playle, of Turakina Valley. Visitors Entertained The Australian lady swimmers, Aliss Francos Bult and Aliss Claire Dennis, and their chaperone, Airs. W. Chambers, were taken for a motor drive yesterday and shown the various points of interest in and around the city. They were entertained at morning tea at the Kiosk, Virginia Lake, and during the afternoon they visited tne several swimming baths. Airs. (Captain) Bonner was hostess at an afternoon tea given at the D.I.C. in honour of the visitors. They will leave this morning by car for Wellington and sail on Friday for (Sydney.
