As a result of the heaviest rainfall in the Bealey district for years road traffic was held up between Springfield and Bealey over the week-end. The Bruce and Cass Rivers were affected also by the melting snows and became raging torrents, and caused the Waimakariri River to flood in its upper reaches. WORTH MILLION POUNDS CANTERBURY OPINION. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 18. As the result of beneficial rains in Canterbury over the week-end the valu~ of the wheat yields will go up by many thousands of pounds. One authority stated that the ruin was worth £1,000,000 in grain seed and improved pastures. The average whtat yield should bo thirty bushels. The rain was badly needed. TARANAKI BENEFITS M(?RE RAIN NEEDED. NEW PLYMOUTH, Dev. 18. After a drought of nineteen days beneficial rain fell throughout Taranaki last night, freshening the pastures and filling the water tanks. Further falls arc necessary, however, to prevent a continuation of the parched conditions. _
