WAVERLEY

A. AND P. ASSOCIATION At a meeting of the executive Committee of the Waverley A. and P. Association, discussion centred round arrangements for the annual show on St. Patrick’s Day, Mhrch 17. It was unanimously decided to add a section for pigs to the schedule. With the increased interest in the breeding of pigs in dairy-farming districts, the committee felt that this addition would be justified, and the innovation should be greatly appreciated by the farmers who generally patronise the show. VALEDICTORY PLUNKET NURSE HONOURED. St. Stephen's schoolroom was crowded to the doors last Friday evening when the committee of the Waverley sub-branch of the Plunkct Society held a social in honour of Plunket Nurse. Miss A. Horrell, who leaves after Christmas for Christ•church. It was a tribute to the wonderful work and enthusiasm shown by Nurse Horrell in the district by the number of mothers present, some of them travelling ten miles to be present. As they entered die hall together, Nurse Horrell and Nurse Edwards were each presented with a beautiful bouquet. Competitions and musical items passed the evening very pleasantly. Just before suppertime, Mrs Mulholland, president of the sub-branch, made, a short speech, in which she referred to the very real and deep regret felt by everyone who had had anything to do with Nurse Horrell at her departure from Patea and Waverley. They would all miss her very much, but hoped that her transfer to Christchurch would bring her increased success and happiness in her work and life. As a token of the esteem she had gained in Waverley, Mrs Mulholland asked Nurse Horrell to accept a beautiful pewter fruit bowl. Following the singing of “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Nurse Horrell responded 1 , and thanked them all for their wishes and gifts. Mrs C. E. Mountfort, of Kohi, on behalf of the mothers of the district, expressed appreciation of Nurse Horrcll’s work, and said that Waverley was losing one of the best, and her position as a nurse would be very hard to fill. Items were given by Mrs P. V. Graves (humorous recitation and song), while competitions were won as follow: Nursery Rhymes, Mesdames L. Honeyfield. M. Bremer, Austen and MacMillan; “A Motor Trip,” Mrs AL P. Bremer. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Mesdames W. J. Johnston and Boyd (Waverley), Roberts, Pettigrew, and R.
