WORLD RECORD CLAIMED
SHEARING OF SHEEP TARANAKI FARMER'S TAIJI.Y Percy de Malmanche, a Pihama farmer, established a world's recoid for machine shearing this week. In ten hours he put through 412 sheep fix ahead of the previous record. The sheep were averajje Romney breeding ewes and unlike many record attempts Mr. de Malmanche made an excellent job. Mr. I’. J. Riley, J.l’., supervised the record attempt and took the times. About 200 people were present at the finish and gave Mr. de Malmanche a great ovation. The previous record of 406 for ion hours was established by a Mr. Higgins at WaverJcy three years ago. An average fast machine shearer will do 180 a day and a blade man about 100. Catching his own sheep Mr. de Malmanche has done over 300 in a ■day. He had been putting up some I good tallies preparing for yesterday’s successful attempt at a record. Four shearers on the. board at Messrs Galpin Bros.’ woolshed “Woodlands,” Marton, made some big tallies one day this week. Between them they sheared 1169 ewes and lambs, an average per man of 292.}. The “ringer” sheared 326 and the Inwest tally of the four was 260.
