LYNCHING CONTROVERSY
DR. DARLINGTON RETRACTS. Received Dec. 4, .11.5 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 5. Au interesting repercussion of Governor Rolph’s lynching stand occurred today when Dr. Henry Darlington retracted his praise of the lynching. He said he was sorry he had praised Governor Rolph, and said: 4 ’it was the result of being deeply stirred at the time.” He announced bis changed stand at the morning services, after a group of theological students had picketed the Church of Heavenly Rest, denouncing him. When the. kidnappers were lynched, clerical bodies throughout the nation made strong leprcsentatious against Mr. Rolf with but few exceptions, not' tably that of Dr. Henry Darlington, rector of Ihe Protestant Episcopal I Church of Heavenly Rest, New York. | He telegraphed to Mr. Rolph congratui fating him, and explained that he ! meant to commend this change from public indifference to a \isible expression that kidnapping must be stopped-
