COMBINED BANDS’ CARNIVAL

OPENS WEDNESDAY NIGHT. GREAT PUBLIC INTEREST. The Grand Carnival commences this (Tuesday) evening with a grand plain and fancy dress dance at the Druids’ Hall. Fancy hats, balloons, streamers, confetti, and good supper will be the order. To-morrow evening the merriment starts at the (Drill Hall, when His Worship the Mayor will open the carnival. Prior to the grand opening the bands —Garrison, Queen’s, and Pipe—will form themselves into n procession at the Avenue corner of Ingestre Street and march to the Drill Hall. Children in original and fancy dresses will be awarded prizes for the best dresses and for the best decorated bicycle. The carnival will be the city’s attraction for the three nights—Wednesday. Thursday and Friday. On Friday evening the procession will comprise the Garrison, Queen’s, and the Pipe, assisted by the school bands, who have generously come forward to help in the good work. Tug-o’war, tyre turning championship. singing, music, dancing, sideshows, competitions, and fun galore will hold sway during the carnival. Everyone will want to assist the bands, and everyone will want to be at the carnival. The Queen part rf the carnival is moving and the pennies for the votes are flowing in. Within the next day or two the first announcement will be made and this will lend additional interest to this big part of the united effort. On Friday evening to the playini? of the Pipe Band the public responded loyally in the purchase of art union tickets at 6d eac-h, and a big step forward was made in this direction. Considerable public interest is being •entred in the big events at the Drill Hal’ on Wednesday. Thursday, and Fridav evenings, and bumper crowds are assured. Remember the carnival will bn ushered in with the grand dance to-night.
