PATRIOTIC SOCIETY ' A meeting of the Bulls-Sanson-Cai■ I narvon-Ohakea ami Lower Rangitikei War Relief Fund Committee was held in Bulls uii Friday evening. Mrs J. E. Walker occupied the chair, and there were also present: Messrs J. 11. Perrctt, R. Brown, F. 0. Bailey, J. Tricker, 11. Mackay, and G. 11. Archer. Leave of absence was granted to Alcssrs 11. J. McAlanaway and W. E. Pearce. Several applications for relief were considered, and assistance was granted. The secretary reported that since March 31, 1933, there had been 168 callers, men passing through, and small grants had been made to ea'ch man. As this is the last meeting before the end of the year the chairman expressed hopes that all would enjoy the festive season. CALF-REARING COMPETITION Judging in the above competition in Group V., which comprises Bulls, Marton Junction and Alarton schools, was completed yesterday. Air J. Brydon Hogg chief agricultural inspector to the Wanganui Education Board, and Air T. W. Lonsdale, representing the Agriculture Department, were present. and the co-judgcs were MessrsJ. C. Williams, of Fordell, and T. Burston, of Flock House.

Bulls School gained first, second, and third prizes in the group, and the prize-winners are eligible to compete at the Marton Show on January 17. The judges •commented very favourably* on the animals brought forward, which were a credit to the school, particularly for a first attempt. The winning calf was an outstanding one. The judges placed them as follows, the order being name of competitor, record, tvpe, rearing, and total: —
