TARIFF COMMISSION
PLEA FOR N.Z.-MADE DOORS. NATURAL TIMBERS SUITABLE. [ Per Press Association. I CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 27. Strong objection to the statement, made in Auckland that the duty on imported doors should be reduced, was made at the Tariff Commission sitting by a representative of a Christchurch firm which aro manufacturers of doors locally from timber grown in Now Zea ! and. The witness was Air. H. Otlcy, director of (’. E. Otley, Ltd. Ho said the Commission had boon asked to believe that a manufactured door could bo landed in New Zealand nt 14s Bd, lutv paid. Vet the same door was retailed at 28s. Witness said it was quite incorrect to say that, Now Zealand natural timbers did not lend themselves *o the manufacture of satisfactory 100 T”.
