Doing Business ill Comfort
An air of pleasant, informality invested the proceedings of the Tariff Commission, which began its Auckland sittings on Tuesday. At the outset it was noticed that, one member of the commission had his pipe in his mouth, and, immediately after the opening of the sitting, the chairman, Dr. G. Craig, announced. ‘‘You may smoke, gentlemen. Wo have no objection.’’ Another welcome arrangement, was the permission given to witness to bo seated during the tendering of evidence. Neither of these concessions to general comfort interfered with the despatch of business, for the commission completed the day's work well within the scheduled period.
