CHURCH OF CHRIST MISSION

In spite of the stormy weather last evening another large audience gathered in the big marquee of the Church of Christ Mission in Victoria Avenue, near the Y.M.C.A. Consistently throughout the entire past six weeks the attendance has been remarkable at all the services to hear the preaching of Harry L. Bell, of America. The mission will close on August 13. Last night the song service was led by Mr. Ray Bell and Miss Mona Watson sang “Even Me.” Three men went forward to confess their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Mr. Bell, during his sermon on “Trifling,” said, as he quoted “And they made light of it,” (Matthew 22:5), “The difference betwee the trifler and the man of moral earnestness is that tho trifler treats little things as if they were big, while the earnest man puts first things first. There are some things that ought to be counted as trifles and which you have a perfect right to make light of. You do well to make light of the ridicule oi those who would laugh you out of your convictions. Instead of surrendering, laugh back. You had better be laughed at for doing a wise thing than to be applauded for doing a. foolish thing. “There are other things with which we cannot afford to trifle. Don’t trifle with your conscience. 1 can toy and play with my watch until it will become utterly unreliable. And you cau trifle with your conscience until it too will become as useless as a watch that is stopped. You must not trifle with the law of moral retribution. To trifle with the law of God is a foolish thing. If I trifle with the law governing electricity, it will not fall on my neck and cry, but rather it will burn mo to a cinder. And if I trifle with tho law of moral retribution, I will have to pay the price. Paul was most certainly right when h said, ‘Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.’ You arc sowing seeds, every one of you. You are sowing them in your life, in your home, in tho hearts of your children. What harvest have you a right to expect, you who never pray with your children?” There will be no service to-night (Saturday). On Sunday night, Mr. Bell’s topic will be “Some Things You Have a Right to Know.” The morning service will be held in the chapel, and in the afternoon at. 2.15 th. ordinance of Christian Baptism will be ad ministered iu the chapel.
