THE SECOND COMING

THE PROPHECIES IN THE BIBLE. Speaking to another large audience in the Victoria Avenue Alission tout of tho Church of Christ last night on “The Second Coming of Jesus,” Air. Harry L. Bell said: “1 challenged myself to read the Bible absolutely without prejudice or former theories, taking the motto ‘Where the Scriptures speak we speak,’ and to my surprise 1 found that there wore more and clearer promises regarding the second coming of our Lord in the New Testament than regarding His first coming in the Old Testament. Because jt isn't popular is no reason to say it isn't true, for one learns that many things which Jesus taught and said are not very highly esteemed by the Church at large. “The one question 1 had in mind was this: ‘ls there such a promise?’ 1 found that there was such a promise, and instead of trying to escape from it, I found in it a source of inexpressible joy and hope. For 1 saw in Him and in Him alone, the mastership of the world.” The preacher quoted several verses of Old Testament scripture showing how the main events in the life of Jesus were prophesied, and said. “These buds of promise blossomed into long and well established facts, and the New Testament records the marvellous accuracy of their fulfillment. Therefore, since the prophecies of His first coming have been so accurately fulfilled, why, then, should it be thought incredible that the promises of His second coming be fulfilled? “The promise of the return of our Lord includes every other promise. With it is the resurrection of the dead, the meeting of our loved ones, the suppression of sin and the rule of right eousness. The Bible tells us that He came once to bear tho cross, but is coming again with the crown. It tells ns He came once to suffer, but is coming again to reign. It tells us that He came once as a mere child, but He shall come again as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.” Air. Thos. Cave sang “He is not .a Disappointment,” To-night Air. Bell’s topic will be “A Peculiar People.’ 1
