MARTON

DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB FORMATION IN MABTON At a well-attended meeting in the Coronation Hall on Wednesday evening Messrs. A. J. B. Sicely (in the chair) and F. J. Soler, conveners, outlined the steps taken thus far for the formation of a Service Rifle Club in Marton, and the procedure, should it be decided to go on with it. The meeting resolved unanimously (1) “That a Defence Rifle Club be formed in Marton, to be known as the Marton Defence Rifle Club.” (2) “That the following scale of subscriptions be adopted for the first year: Honorary members £l, active members 15s, special honorary members (volunteers, etc.) 10s, the first year’s subscription to be due forthwith.” (3) “That upon receipt of approval from the Defence Department, steps be taken to set the range in order.” Election of Officers: Patron, Mr. F. Purnell; president, Mr. A. J. B. Sicely; deputy-president, Mr. J. H. Dashwood; club captain, Mr. F. J. Soler; committee (to consist of eight, officers ex officio), Messrs. J. B. S. Dudding, C. H. Gower, F. C. A. Wood, H. F. Low and A. Parkes, with power to add three others; hon. secretary, Mr. F. Shapleski; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. J. B.Sicely. Votes of thanks were accorded Messrs. H. Meyer and Ik Friedrich for the use of their property for 10 years at a nominal rental. Rules are to be drafted by the committee and submitted to the next general meeting. The following were adopted a committee, with power to add, to arrange for a social function in September: Messrs. F. C. A. Wood and J. H. Dashwood. The next meeting will be held in a month’s time, when arrangements will be finalised. RUGBY FOOTBALL Wanganui Fourths Match With Rangitikei Thirds On the Marton Park to-morrow afternoon the Rangitikei 111. and Wangn nui IV. representative teams will meet in their annual match. The following team has been selected by Mr. Symons to represent Rangitikei:—Full-back. White (A.), three quarters, Kerr (A.), Symons (11.), Campbell (Flock House), live-eighths, Wysocki (O.B.), Bending (A.); half, Marr (A.); forwards, Meads (H.), Nuttall (A.), Price (Flock House), C. Stantiall (A.), Rekowski (A.), captain; Smith (Flock House), Rowe (H.), and Gibbs (H.). Emergencies: Backs, R. Gordon (H.). and Whale (A.); forwards, Lee (O.B.). and Waller (A.). Wanganui Team The Wanganui team will be: Gilbert, i .lames, Stewart, Campbell, Sherlock, Murray, Wild, Gowan, Green, Farrell, Pedley, Dccrness, Goldsbury, Anderson, Sullivan, Corby, L'ravers. This team will assemble at the Imperial Hotel at 1 p.m. The match will start at 2.45 p.m. sharp. ART NEEDLEWORK. At the recent winter show held at Whangarei, Mrs. T. OlDonnell secured six prizes in the art needlework class; also a first prize at Manawatu.
