THE WANGANUI SALE GOOD SHEEP SALE Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., report as follows on yesterday’s Wanganui sale: — Fat sheep were above last week’s rates to the extent of Is to Is 6d per head, lambs being on a par. There was a good demand for breeding ewes and hoggets, and we report that with the exception of one lot of wether hog gets a total clearance was made in thd sheep pens. Fat cattle were hard of sale, several lots being passed in. What few store cattle were yarded sold at late rates. The dairy section was not a very attractive offering and sold accordingly. Few porkers were yarded and sold at last week’s rates. Store pigs sold freely a little above last week’s rates. Jackson and Co., Ltd., report on the clearing sale on account of Mr H. W. Robertson, on Tuesday, as follows: The herd, which was sold without reserve, came forward in excellent ,condition, 23 of the 26 head calving this month, the other three early August. Bidding was quite brisk, any cow showing quality and young selling remarkably well. Best second, third, and fourth calvers, due July, £7 to £9; fifth to eighth calvers, due July, £6 to £7; aged, £5 to £6; unsound, £3 15s to £4 10s. Implements made full market rates. Mower, £l5 15s; hayrako (as new), £l7. Yearling Jersey heifer, £2 10s. The herd of 26 cqws (unsound cows included) averaged £6 Ils 6d. MARTON SALE The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co., Ltd., report a yarding of 300 sheep, 120 head of cattle, and 25 pigs, at the above sale yesterday. The entry of sheep comprised mostly pens of breeding ewes, fat wethers, and forward lambs. The cattle entry comprised practically all dairy heifers, some very nice sorts came forward, and any heifers showing quality and close up were keenly competed for, but backward sorts, even though wclbbred, were inclined to drag. There was a keen demand for pigs compared to previous sales. We quote:—Prime fat wethers, to 17s Id; good wethers, J2s 6d, 13s 9d to 14s; fat ewes, Ss; medium black-faced lambs, 10s 1<I; 5-ycar ewes, r.w. The market was maintained for butchers wethers, but lighter sorts were easier. There was no export competition. Ox beef was in rather short supply and values improved by about Is per lOOlbs. Cow and heifer bef also advanced in price.
