STERLING AND DOLLAR
[ British Official Wireless. J Received Julv 12, 5.5 p.m. RUGBY, July 11. The American dollar was quoted at 1.791 dollars to the £ when the foreign exchange market opened, and later improved to 4.744 dollars. French francs were quoted at 84|. On July 10, sterling showed further marked strength on New York since the dollar rate opened London at 4.79 dollars, ami after touching 4.83 dollars it stood at 4.81 shortly before noon. French francs were 84 15-16.
