THE WANGANUI SALE BIDDING NOT BRISK. Messrs. Freeman R. Jackson and Co., Ltd., report as follows on yesterday’s Wanganui sale: —As very often happens, our sale previous to a race day is invariably dull, and to-day was no exception to the rule. The attendance was a poor one and the bidding in all sections was dull, resulting in a very dragging sale with heavy passings in all sections, particularly so in the fat. cattle section. Last week’s offering of beef was a very good quality one and heavy in numbers, and butchers evidently bought more than their week’s requirements. Pork was very cheap at to-day’s sale, even lower than last week, and sales were very hard to effect. Quotations: — Sheep.—Prime ewes, 7s 6d to 8s; fat ewes, 5s to 7s 2d; fat lambs (good), Ils 7d; light fat lambs, 8s lOd to 9s 3d; b.f. lambs, 6s to 7s. Cattle. —Ft cows, to £3 10s; forward cows, 24s to 27s 6d; forward run-bred cows, to £2; two-year steers, £2 6s; 21year Hereford heifers, £2 ss; store cows, 15s, 17s 6d to 20s; works bulls, £1 15s, £2 to £2 ss. Pigs. —Heavy porkers, to 235; porkers, 20s to 225; light porkers, 15s to 19s; small stores, 6s 6d to 8s; good stores, 9s 6d to 12s; poor weaners, 3s to 4s. Vealers. —Runners, 33s to 38s; good vealers, 25s to 335; good calves, 18s to 235; small calves, Ils to 17s. BULLS SALE Messis. Dalgety and Company, Limited, Palmerston North, report on their fortnightly sale at Bulls on Monday: We had a small entry of sheep and a fair yarding of cattle, practically the whole of which changed hands at prices on a par with surrounding sales. Quotations: —Fat ewes, s 74d; fat two-tooths, 14s 6d; store ewes, 4s; white-face lambs, 8s 8d; black-face lambs, 7s 3d; fat cows, £2 ss; killable cows, 265, 27s to 31s; store cows, 15s to 20s; Jersey heifers r.w.b., £3 ss; Jersey weaners, 34s to 38s; P.A. cows r.w.b., 255; P.A. heifers, r.w.b., 14s; P.A. weaner heifers, 19s; bulls, 20s; pigs, porkers, 16s. VALUES AT ADDINGTON NEW LOW RECORD FOR BEEF. [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH; May 17. A new low record for fat cattle values was established at the Addington market to-day. The market is being shaken by a succession of over supplies. In all the other major sections the general demand was keen. Store Sheep.—A small entry and a dull sale. Lambs were slightly easier. Values: Medium ewe lambs, 5s 6d to 6s; inferior, to 3s‘6d; good m.s., to 6s sd; ordinary, 3s 6d to 4s 6d; inferior, to 2s 7d; medium 4, 6 and 8-tooth Romney cross ewes, to 9s lOd; ordinary s.m., 4s 4d to 4s 6d; aged and f.m. to Is 6d; inferior 2-tocth halfbred, to 4s 7d. Fat Lambs. —An entry of 1900, the smallest for a long period. A very keen sale and prices firm at late rate. Values: Extra prime heavy lambs, to 18s 4d; prime heavy, 13s to 15s; prime medium weight, Ils to 13s; light, 8s 6d to 10s 6d. Fat Sheep.—A medium entry of 4300, including heavy supplies from the southern provinces. Medium weight and light ewes were firmer and other classes maintained, late rates. Values were: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 19s lOd; prime heavy, 15s to 17s 6d; prime medium weight, 13s to 14s 6d; ordinary, Ils to 12s 6d; light, 9s to 10s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes, to 14s Id; prime heavy, Ils 6d to 13s; medium weight prime, 9s to Ils; ordinary, 7s to 8s 6d; light, 4s 6d to 6s 6d. Fat Cattle.—An entry of 470 head. The West Coast and South Canterbury provided a portion. The sale was extremely dull and the fall was up to £1 a head for medium and good sorts. Best beef sold up to 16s 6d per lOOlbs.; good prime, 13s 6d to 15s 6d; heavyweight and medium, Ils to 13s; good cow, 10s to 13s; secondary cow, 8s to 10s; rough, down to 6s. Values: Extra prime heavy steers, to £8 12s 6d; prime heavy, £5 10s to £6 15s; prime medium weight, £4 15s Co £6 ss; ordinary quality, £3 to £4 sb; light, £1 15s to £2 17s fid; extra prime heifers, to £6 7s 6d; prime, £3 to £4 JOs; medium, £2 to £3; light, to £2; extra prime cows, to £6 7s fid; prime, £2 15s to £3 10s; medium, £1 17s fid to £2 10s; light, £1 to £1 15s. Fat Pigs.—A medium entry and the demand quite good. Choppers were in over supply and prices for them were very low. Values: Choppers, 15s to £3 11s; baconers, 35s to 40s; heavy, 47s 6d to 54s 6d; extra heavy, to £3; average price per lb., 33d to 4d. Porkers, 18s to 23s 6d; heavy, 2Cs fid to 31s 6d; average price per lb., 3Ad to 4id. THE WESTFIELD SALE BEEF IN OVER-SUPPLY. SHEEP VALUES STEADY. [ Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND, May 17. Values for beef cattle declined at the Westfield sale. With the approach of the depth of winter graziers are shortening their herds, and in consequence there was a heavy supply, which was the chief influence in the decline in prices. The yarding of beef totalled approximately 800 head against 700 head last week. Extra choice ox declined Is to 2s per lOOlbs, selling at 15s to 17s compared with 19s last week. Choice and prime ox 14s to 16s, choice and prime cow and heifer 12s to 15s, unfinished 7s to Ils. Extra heavy steers £6 15s to £7 10s, heavy prime £5 10s to £6 12s fid, lighter prime £4 12s (id to £5 ss, light £4 5s to £4 10s, small and unfinished £2 10s to £4 2s 6d. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £4 10s to £5 ss, heavy prime cows and heifers £3 10s to £4 ss, lighter £2 5s to £3 ss, other killable cows and heifers £1 10s to £2 2s fid. Largo numbers of sheep came forward and values remained fairly steady.

Prime wethers Ils 3d to 17s, unfinished 9s to 12s 6d, prime ewes 8s to 13s 6d, unfinished 3s to Bs. Primo lambs, 9s to 15s 3d, unfinished 3s to 8s 9d. There was no improvement in the demand for calves. Values were weaker. Runners £1 10s to £2 Ils, heavy vealers £1 5s to £1 17s, medium £1 to £1 4s, light and small 14s to £l, rough and bucket fed 6s to Ils, bobby calves 2s to ss. Pigs were in full supply and sold well. Baconers 35s to 565, porkers JBs to 325, weaners 2s 6(1 to 8s 6d, slips 7s to 10s, largo stores 12s to 15s.
