MARTON
BANGITIKEI RUGBY OLD BOYS (9); OHINGAITI (5). The score does not give a true indication of the game between Old Buys and Ohingaiti, played at Marton Park yesterday, and with a little more luck on their side Ohingaiti would probably have been the winners. Campbell was Old Boys’ best back, while Bartlett was the best of Ohingaiti’s backs, but Clent, Prichard and Tolley were also good. Mcßeth did much good work for Old Boys. Ohingaiti invaded Old Boys’ territory right from the kick-off, and for the first five minutes of the game they kept them there. Barry brought relief when Old Boys were awarded a free, and gained ground with a good linr. Fom a passing bout, Campbell secured and put in a good run down the side line before he was well grasaed. A free kick from about forty yards out gave Chainey a •chance to open ths score, but the kick flew wide. Ohingaiti came back to smash through the blue rearguard and went within aces of scoring, a force down saving Old Boys. Ohingaiti continued to attack and gave Old Boys some anxious moments, but Barry brought off some good saves and Campbell was always solid. Barry booted through ni’cely and put Old Boys on the attack again. An infringement saw Barry given an opportunity and he raised the flags. Old Boys 3; Ohingaiti 0. Half-time came shortly after with tho score unchanged. Ohingaiti attacked strongly upon resumption, Prichard cutting through well and gaining much ground before he was brought down. From a line-out the ball travelled along to Bartlett at centre, and he ran strongly before being thrown out by Campbell. Ohingaiti had an anxious moment when the Old Boys’ batka broke through, but Henderson who was playing a good game at full-back, proved equal to the occasion and cleared with a good kick.
From a melee in midfield Clent snapped up and raced away on his own but the whistle brought him back, a scrum being awarded. An interchange of kicking followed, Henderson finally finding tho line. Old Boys had Ohingaiti hard pressed, but from a scrum near the blue and ■blacks’ line, Clent cleared. Ohingaiti now attacked hotly and carried play back into Old Boys’ twenty-five. After several efforts to score, Bartlett secured and raced over to touch down between the posts. The scorer converted his own try. Ohingaiti 5; Old Boys 3. Within a couple of minutes of Ohingaiti scoring Old Boys were across, Chainey, following-up fast, beating a blue and black player to force down. It was a near thing. Barry missed. Old Boys 6; Ohingaiti 5. Old Boys continued to keep up the pressure and when a free fame their way inside Ohingaiti’s twenty-five, Chainey found no difficulty in piloting the ball across. Old Boys 9; Ohingaiti 5. Ohingaiti made determined efforts to equalise and a good run by Bartlett brought them close, but the end came with tho score the same. Mr R. Rivers refereed.
