RUMBOLD RETIRING [ British Official Wireless ] Received Mav 16. 10.5 p.m. RUGBY, May 15. ’ The King has approved the appointj ment of Sir Eric Phipps, Minister at Vienna, as Ambassador at Berlin, in succession to Sir Horace Rumbold, who ’ is retiring. Sir Horace Rumbold, who was the , host of Mr Stanley M. Bruve when he visited Germany to hand over the name . plate of the cruiser Emden, has been t British Ambassador to Germany for r the last five years. Sir Horace had been Ambassador at Madrid for four . years when he was sent to Germany, . and he has held posts at Berne, War- - saw, and Constantinople. He is one of 3 the most distinguished of British dips lomats. When war was declared against Germany in 1914, Sir Horace was i Charge d’Affaires at the British Em- - bassy at Berlin. On July 24, 1923, he i signed the Treaty of Lausanne on behalf of the British Empire and has repi resented Great Britain on many notable p occasions. f UJ !-!=-
