PATEA
GIRL GUIDES. Members of the Patea Company of Girl Guides and their officers, as well as a number of Brownies with their Brown Owl, journeyed to Alton on Wednesday evening last, to take part in the Alton Company’s fifth birthday anniversary celebration. The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. F. Ramsbottom) were among those present, and also Divisional Commissioner Mrs. J. Houston and Mr. Houston, and Scoutmaster Pauling, of the Patea Troop of Boy Scouts. A very happy timd was spent, and the tea was done full justice to. A birthday cake had been given to the Alton Company, and this was cut by Mrs. Houston, Grace Nickel, as the youngest Guide, lighting the candle, which was blown out by Patty Hall, the youngest Patea Guide. Following tho tea, Mrs. Houston presented service stars and badges to members of the Alton Company, and enrolled ten Brownies who will form
tho first Alton Brownie Pack. Songs, plays and choruses formed the programme which was given, and greatly enjoyed by those present, two plays being given, one by the Hawera Savage Club and the other by the Alton committee members.
