DAIRY PRODUCE
BUTTER AND CHEESE FIRM The New Zealand Producers ’ Cooperative Marketing Association’s weekly cabled market report from London, dated May 9, is as follows: Butter. —Market firm; New Zealand, 74s to 755; Danish, 94s to p6s. Cheese.—Market firm; New Zealand, white, 435; coloured, 50s to 51s. In their monthly report Joseph Nathan and Co., Ltd., state that after a dull period tile butter market is again showing signs of activity, and buyers aro operating with more confidence than has been the case for some time. During April the market touched a record low level, but the last week or so a welcome upward trend is in evidence, and to-day quotations are 75s per cwt. with a firm tone. Buyers are again active, and commenced operations at B£d for April-May output. Later sales were made at B|d, and even up to 9d in some) cases. The cheese market has also advanced in line with butter, and more satisfactory prices are ruling. There is still a rather wide margin between white and coloured, but factories during the last two months or so have practically reverted to two-thirds white and onethird coloured, so this difference, no doubt, will shortly bo much smaller. As far as we know, states the report, little <chee.se has been sold, although buyers have been offering for in store and balance of the season’s make. Presumably factories’ ideas are above buyers’ and therefore the former are preferring to consign.
