TE RIMU PUNT
Sir, —In reading the report of the meeting of the Waitotara County Council, held yesterday, when the question of ownership of the To Rimu pun* arose, I noticed no mention was made of the two men, Messrs. Hatherly and Rhodes, who rowed across the swiftlyrunning flooded river and secured the punt, and after an arduous, and with out doubt dangerous, undertaking safely got it to shore. At 9 o’clock rhe same night these two men again wont over the river to make doubly sure that the punt was made safely fast. Had they not done this the punt would assuredly have been carried out to sea and would have been a total loss to the council. Some recognition should, I am sure, have been made to these intrepid men who, without doubt, undertook a very dangerous job and saved a considerable sum of money to the council. EYE-WITNESS. Mav 9, 1933.
Presumably the question of salvage will be taken into consideration when the punt is repaired and restored. A claim for sah ago has been made.— Editor.
