A card afternoon (“500”) will be hold in the Croquet Club’s pavilion this afternoon. A mothers’ day was held in the Clifton Hall on Saturday afternoon, and although the weather was cold there was a fairly good attendance of mothers and children. Miss Cook and a. party of Afarton ladies attended, and were welcomed by Airs Goodall. Aliss Cook gave an interesting address on tho bringing-up of children, chiefly speaking of children of school age. Afiss Cook mentioned that the work of the Plunket Soc’cty entailed certain expense to kcc-p up, and although advice was given free, mothers who received benefits should, if they arc able, contribute something towards the society’s funds. The committee provided afternoon tea, and at tho conclusion Afrs. 'Goodall thanked Aliss Cook and the Afarton ladies for coining down, and Afiss Cook in particular for her entertaining address. As the funds of the Bulls branch of the society are low, it is probable that a street collection will be taken up shortly.
