NO REDUCTION

FEDERAL BASIC WAGE. DECISION OF FULL COURT. MELBOURNE, May 6. Three Judges of the Full Court ot the Arbitration Court, in a reserved judgment, refused to restore the 10 per cent, reduction applied to all awards of the Court in 1931, but a majority of the Court decided that a new method of adjusting the Federal basic wage in accordance with the cost of living be adopted by using an “ill items” table instead of an “all houses” table. The Court also decided that the reduction in the basic wage, which was to have come into operation ‘to-day, should not apply.

The immediate effect will be an increase in the Federal basic wage in Melbourne of 4s Id a week, Sydney 2s Bd, Brisbane 4s 7d, Adelaide 3s 7d, Perth 2s 4d, Hobart 2s Bd.
