COLD WEATHER AILMENTS
PREVENTING INFLUENZA It is a mistake to go about in fear and trembling when influenza is about. Fear lowers the vitality, and although it; is impossible to contract an illness through fear alone, it makes one less able to resist infection. With proper care and early treatment there is nothing to be afraid of. Keep early hours and avoid fatigue. These are the best safeguards against infection. A gargle, which mav also be used as a nasal douche, is of value. A mild disinfectant—glycerine of thymol is as good as any—is all that Is necessary. Gargle every night and morning using three separate tablespoonsful each time. Avoid crowds if you can. Fresh air and good food arc essential if you would keep fit.
Don’t visit sick friends unless they need your help. If you have to nurse someone, with influenza, gargle frequently and don’t spend all your lime in the sick-room.
