MOVE BY BOOKMAKERS
SYNDICATE IN ENGLAND SMASHING OF TOTALISATOB LONDON, May 4. The Daily Express says that a syndicate of powerful bookmakers, with a fighting fund of £1,000,000, has been formed to smash the popularity of the totalisator by outbidding it. Already the bookmakers have started a formal war by flooding the totalisator With “blower” money at tno last minute in order to bring the totalisator’s price below the bookmakers’. Operations will start in connection with the big races. It is claimed in the last annual report of the Betting Control Board that the totalisator dividends average 50 per cent, higher than the bookmakers’ starting prices.
