FRENCH FINANCES

BANK OF ENGLAND’S AID. RETURNING THE GOOD TURN. PARIS, April 26. It. Is reported that the Bank of England has arranged to lend the French Treasury francs form the exchange equalisation fund to assist in the next few months when the Government is short of money owing to the delay in the payment of taxes. The Bank of England, in efforts to keep down the pound, has acquired large quantities of francs. The arrangement is a friendly gesture similar to that which France made to the Bank of England when the pound began to fall. The French Government is doubtful whether it will be able to raise a loan in France at the present time, so the arrangement will relieve the Treasury of anxiety for a few months.
