DOG OF FILM FAME
AREIVAL IN AUCKLAND [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, April 24. High up on the top dock of the Mariposa, .this morning, barking a greeting to Auckland, was “Caesar, tlio wonder dog,” the Alsatian of film fame, and acknowledged by Ameri'can film critics as the successor of the dead Rin-Tin-.Tin. He is described as the “debonair Adolphe Menjou of dogdom. ” Caesar is on his way to Australia with his master, Mr H. H. Tonks. He was born in Perth, West Australia, four years ago, and showing intelligence far above the ordinary dog. he was trained until now by sign alone he will carry out any instruction.
Two years ago Mr Tonks took his dog to Hollywood, am' since that time Caesar lias won much fame for himself and money for his master. Mr Tonks says he is probably the most valuable dog in the world. “Naturally I think he is a wonder, but I would rather tell you what American papers think of him.” said Mr Tonks. “They described him as the dog with the human brain, and critics of the motion picture industry acclaimed him as the greatest dog star that has ever been in Hollywood. lie takes commands in sign language, which is so essential in these days of sound pictures. I never command him by word of mouth. I have a system of signs, and he obeys.”
Caesar is going to Australia to make, a personal appearance with “Trailing the Killer,” a film in which he is starred.
