SALES OF THE WEEK. The Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of N.Z., Ltd., report that a week of steady trading has ensued. A further disastrous decline has occurred in both the butter and cheese markets, new low levels having been recorded in the case of each. As is to be expected at this time of the year, production is showing a steady decline but the records of most farmers arc well above those, ruling at this time last year. The ideal weather conditions have continued and an abundance of feed is assured for the winter months. As an oilset to the pessimistic views of the dairy markets, both lamp and wool have shown a slight Hardening tendency. A further rise has occurred on the Home market for lambs of lighter weights and this news will be gratifying to those who have snipped Home on their own account. From reports received, the more settled conditions existing on the Continent are starting to make themselves felt in the wool sales being conducted throughout this country. Keen competition, especially from Continental buyers, marked the Wellington sale and a general rise of |d to Ad >er lb. on the March sale resulted. Business has practically confined itself during the week to sales of fat stock for butchers’ requirements and store cattle suitable for fattening. An increasing number of store cows from dairy herds is noticeable at our yard sales. Fat Sheep.—We report the sale of truck lots of fat ewes from 7s 6d to Bs. A slightly hotter demand exists for fat wethers in truck lots, prices ranging from 14s 6d to 15s, Store Lambs.—The emand for store lambs confine itself mainly to the yards where competition still remains keen. Store wethers are still in demand, but quotes of same are hard to procure. Fat Cattle. —This class of business confines itself to butchers’ requirements. We report the sales of truck lots of prime fat heifers from £4. 7s 6d to £5, and fat cows from £4 to £4 7s 6d. Store Cattle.—A keen dem; 1 exists for all classes of store cattle. We report the sale of a large line of 18 month cattle. We report the sale of a large line of 18 month steers and heifers at 38s and a line of 3| year P.A. a: Hereford cows at £2 10s. Three and four-year bullocks command attention from £3 5s to £4 and up to £4 10s. Wo report the sale of odd lines of weancr heifers from £2 to £2 ss. Empty 18 month Jersey and Jersey-cross heifers are in demand, but seem hard to procure. Sales have been made at £2 10s. A slight enquiry for the in calf heifer at a lower price than that ruling locally exists, but business is hard to transact. The following is a summary of our sales for the past week:—
