A NUDE BATHER

AT A WELLINGTON BEACH. WELLINGTON. March 20. Having been the cause of a mild sensation at Oriental Bay on Saturday afternoon by going in for a swim entirely without clothes, David Clarke McKee, a waterside worker, aged 41, appeared before Mr. E. Page, S.M., today at the- Magistrate's Court. He pleaded guilty to charges of wilful obscene exposure and drunkenness. Explaining the case for the police, Senior-Sergeant Dempsey said that some time after 1 o’clock on Saturday the accused, who was in a drunken condition, went round to Oriental Bay. He completely undressed on the beach, and went into the water and swam or paddled about for some time. The police were telephoned for, and when a constable arrived on the scene the accused was dressing himself near the sea wall. At that time a number of boys and girls of various ages were playing about the beach. Some distance away were some women who could not have avoided seeing the accused if they had looked. Mr. Page fined the accused £l.O, in default 21 days’ imprisonment, on the charge of obscene exposure, and convicted and discharged him on the charge of drunkenness. The magistrate refused a request for time to pay, but said that the police would afford him facilities to communicate with anyone who could assist him.
