WEDDINGS

chainey—McDonald The wedding took place at St. Joseph’s Church, Aramoho, on Monday, October 4, of Marie, younger daughter of Air. J. McDonald and the late Airs. McDonald, of Wanganui, and Clifford Esmond, second son of Airs. L. Chainoy and the late Mr. F. N. Chainey, of Wanganui. The Rev. Father Ainsworth performed the ceremony and Miss Burr played the wedding music. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a charming frock of parchment satin beauto made on classical lines. The veil, of fine tulle, was arranged to the head with lily of the valley and fell to form a train. She carried a beautiful bouquet of lily of the valley. Aliss Eileen AfcDonald, sister of the bride, and Aliss Aluriel Chainey, sister of the bridegroom, W’ere the bride’s attendants. They wore attractive frocks of green and coral pink floral georgettes respectively. They wore hats of lisere straw and shoes to tone, and carried bouquets of Iceland poppies, roses and ranunculi. Their only ornaments were necklaces to match their frocks and were the gift of the bridegroom. Air. Horace Chainey, of Alarton, was the best man, and Air. Harry Mc-Don-ald, of Auckland, was the groomsman.

The bridal party made a pretty picture against the background of golden Iceland poppies, which decorated the church (the decorations being the work of Mrs. Richardson).

The reception followed at the Elrick Lounge, where a large number of guests were received by Airs. L. Chainey and the bride’s father. Airs. C. Armstrong, of Ellerslie, Auckland, aunt of the bride, assisted as hostess, and wore an ensemble suit of blue with posy of pansies to tone. Mrs. Chainey was attired in a frock of black satin beaute and smart black Milan hat trimmed with cherries. She held a posv of cherry-coloured flowers. When the bride and bridegroom, left for their honeymoon the bride travelled in a tailored costume of maroon flecked tweed and a ballibuntal hat to tone. She also wore a beautiful set of furs, the gift of the bridegroom. A large number of presents was received.

FRIENDS’ SCHOOL SPORTS The Friends’ School annual sports, postponed from Saturday ou account of very unfavourable weather, were held yesterday, the day being ideal for sports. A number of parents and interested friends were present to watch the various events. The beauty of the grounds with the green lawns and fine trees were an attraction to the visitors.

Afternoon tea was served on the lawn near the school, where the visitors could view the potato races and the skipping events. In the latter event some very graceful and clever skipping was seen and won much applause. Mr. and Mrs. A. Douglass welcomed the visitors. Mr. Monkhouse was in charge of the sports, Miss Masters and Miss Donnelly assisting.
