PLUNKET BABY CARNIVAL ACTIVITY AT GONVILLE Gonville has lost no time in allying round the Plunket banner for the laudable purpose of assisting the big baby carnival, which opens to-day, to raise funds to meet the extra expenses necessary to increase the accommodation at the Stewart Karitane Home and to maintain the splendid services rendered the public by the Plunket Society in general and the home in particular.

An enthusiastic committee is functioning in Gonville to support the campaign for the Gonville candidate, Mary Catherine Bignell, daughter of Mr and Mrs M. G. Bignell. Mrs Warnock and Mrs Draffin have acted as conveners.

At a meeting held yesterday afternoon various suggestions as to how funds could be raised were made and finally a programme of entertainment was approved. On Thursday of this week, in the Victoria League Rooms, there is to bo a bridge afternoon, play commencing at 2.30. On November 12 a 500 evening, with dancing and bridge for those who would prefer either, is to be held in the Masonic Hall, Gonville. That will be followed, on November 15, by a social afternoon in the same hall. A very entertaining musical programme is being arranged for this. There will be afternoon tea and a stall. A grand children’s paper hat party is being organised for November 26, in the Gonville Town Hall. This is to be an afternoon function and prizes are to be awarded for the prettiest hats.

Judged on the enthusiasm which has marked proceedings up to now, Gonville will make a big effort to be well up on the list at. the. finish. There will be keen rivalry in this year’s carnival, suburb trying to outdo suburb. It only remains for those who want to see the royal blue colour lead to throw in their energies with the Gonville committee
