TRAMPERS’ TRAIN

PROPOSAL FOR AUCKLAND ARRANGEMENTS BEING MADE AUCKLAND, July 28. Preparations for running a “mystery hikers’ train” from Auckland on about the second Sunday in August have been engaging the attention, of the Railway Department, and an announcement of the final arrangements will shortly be made. With a view to making the excursion a success from a tramping point of view the co-opera-tion of six different tramping clubs has been secured, and the department is fully prepared to cope with surplus crowds by putting on a second train if it should prove necessary. In England, where the idea has been remarkably successful, trampers are conveyed to an unknown destination in the country. Then they walk to another point on the railway, where tho train is waiting to bring them home.
