RUGBY FOOTBALL. Alangawoka seniors met Hautapu (Taihape), at Alangawoka on Saturday. After'a very hard and exciting game Hautapu emerged the victors by 14 points to nil. Hautapu juniors forfeited to Mangaweka juniors. CHESS. The cold winter evenings are attracting many new players to the Chess Club, where the friendly glow of the log fire, and the subdued silence tend to make the dullest men think deeply and move slowly. Many of the star games attract large audiences, who gather around the tables and return knowing smiles while the games progress. GOLF. UTIKU v. MANGAWEKA. Alangawoka golfers journeyed to Utiku on Wednesday of last week and played a game against members of the Utiku team. Tho results of the games were:— Men: Dickson and Waymouth boat

Sutherland. Ladies: Mrs. O’Callaghan and Mrs. Pairman beat Airs, and Aliss Belk; Airs. Rowley and Airs. Watson lost to Airs. Ormond and Aliss Potts; Airs. Daubuey and Aliss Barrell lost to Aliss Belk and Airs. Gilchrist; Miss Bunker and Aliss Dickinson lost to Aliss Alort land and Airs. Forsyth. DEFENCE .RIFLE CLUB. The first shoot for tho President’s Handicap Challenge Cup was fired during the week-end. Tho scores wore:— 43, 47, 90; W. Ham L. Alahoney 40, 46, 86; 11. Nash 43, 47, 90; W. Hamilton 46, 47, 93; S. Watkins was successful in carrying off the cup.
