FINANCIAL TROUBLES
NEW LYNN BOROUGH COUNCIL. OI'TICIALS ASKED TO KESIGN. [ Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 28. The New Lynn Borough Council al a special meeting resolved to ask for the resignations of all its permanent officials, numbering four, to lake effect from September 3U, This was considered the best means of dealing with, the financial situation, tho outcome of which could not be clearly foreseen.
The Mayor (Mr. George Lawson) said that the council was preparing for a situation that might arise in inose months. It had cxperienccu considerable difficulty in collecting rates in the last two years and was much concerned about what would happen this year. The public services of the borough might have to be considerably curtailed if the rate collections were less than last year. Moneys owing on behalf of properties mortgaged to the State were a serious factory and ultimately something would have to be done by the Government to help local bodies thus affected. The council’s officials were thoroughly efficient and had done all possible to assist in the difficult time. The position was most unfortunate.
