TOWN BOARD MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Bulls Town Board was held on Thursday evening. Present: Messrs. J. E. Walker. F. A. Holland, G. D. Flower, M. C. Gould and C. C. Price. Mr. C. Broughton was granted leave of absence. Foreman’s Report.—Mr. S. Howard reported as follows on work done tor the period ending June 16: —AU main roads have been graded six times with the county graders; 69 yards of river metal have been put on road in Bridge Street; 48 yards of metal have been carted for footpath in High Street; the concreting of footpath in High Street was completed to-day; have been engaged helping with concreting in High Street. The paths at the cemetery have been kept mowed. Relief workers have been engaged getting footpath ready for concreting in High Street; also in assisting with concreting and cleaning up at the cemetery. Correspondence.—From the secretary of Bulls Football Club, asking for a reduction in the price of hire of the Town Hall for a ball. —As the overhead expenses of the hall have not been reduced and the service given has been improved, the board could not see its way clear to make any reduction. From the Wanganui City Council, asking that the Town Board should be represented at a conference to be held in Wanganui on June 29 to consider the question of heavy traffic licenses. —The chairman was asked to represent the board. From A. Hill, Bulls, giving notice of sale of property to the Rangitikei County Council. — Sale approved. From J. O’Shea, legal adviser to the Alunicipal Association of New Zealand, re the position of the Bulls Town Board and itinerant traders ’ licenses.—Received. Finance. —Collections for the month wer as follows: Bents, £9 18s; rates, £2 13s 2d; billiard-room license, £1; vehicle license, 10s; explosive license, £2 ss; motor drivers’ licenses, £35 10s; heavy traffic licenses, £6O 4s 4d; library, £3 ss; domain, £l. Accounts were passed for payment as follows: District fund, £95 19s 4d; cemetery, £2; library, £2 12s 6d. Lighting.—Air. A. Holland stated that residents of Lower Bridge Street wished him to thank tho board for erecting lights in their area. Cemetery.—lt was reported that the cemetery was being kept in very good order, and was being favourably commented upon. It was resolved to make arrangements so that graves conk’, be kept in order for a nominal annual charge. Works Committee.—The following were appointed for the ensuing month: Messrs. Broughton, Gould and Flower. FOOTBALL. Bulls seniors to play Hunterville, at Huntcrville to-day, have been selected as follows: Preston, Prichard, Bromley, Cole, Tate, Cater, Harper, Homes, Crosland, Cutts, Cooper, Ellery, L. Homes and Cameron. Emergencies: Lunn (forward), Dwyer (back). Bus leaves at 1.15 p.m.

THE PICTURES The late Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective story, “Tho Speckled Band,” will be shown at the Town Hall this evening. The plot is an intricate one, but Sherlock Holmes unravels it successfully. GOLF. The first qualifying round for the men’s championship of the Rangitikei Golf Club will be played to-day. The draw has already been published. TJIE FOOTBALLERS’ BALL. The Bulls Football Club’s annual ball will be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday next, and judging by the complete arrangements being made this year’s function will be an outstanding attraction Bramwell’s full orchestra has been engaged, and a first-class supper, bright decorations and a perfect danco floor should all combine to make the ball a great success.
