JUNIOR FOOTBALL OLD BOYS V. ATHLETIC ~. The Old Boys and Athletic junior teams met on Marton Park yesterday afternoon, Old Boys winning by 20 points to 11 in a sparkling game. The first spell ended with the score 8 all. Nairne scored for Athletic, Taylor converting. Taylor also kicked a penalty goal. For Old Boys Hammond and Barry scored, the latter converting one. Early in the second spell Taylor scored a brilliant try for Athletic as the result of a passing rush. Then Lewis “dropped” a fine goal, making the score 12—-11 in favour of Old Boys. Poppe scored and Barry converted, putting Old Boys in the lead by 17 to 11. Barry kicked a penalty and thus the game ended.—Old Boys 20, Athletic 11. Mr. Guy Thomson refereed. BIRTHDAY PARTY Some 20 to 30 guests assembled at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Matthews, Bredin’s Line, last evening, the occasion being Mrs. Matthews' birthday. A jolly evening was spent, with parlour games and dancing. GENERAL NEWS The first of a series of progressive euchre evenings for the aggregate prize was held on Tuesday evening in the Marton District High School- Owing to other meetings, the attendance was not as large as usual, but a thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent by those present. Mrs. Pickford and Mrs. G. Morris tied for the ladies’ first prize, which they halved. Mr. Alexander and Mr. Strawbridge tied for the men’s first, the former winning the play off. The next evening will be held in a fortnight’s time, Tuesday, 28th. inst. While cycling from his residence along Crofton Road yesterday morning Mr. J. 8. Bush, a clerk employed by the Marton Sash, Door, and Timber Company, sustained a nasty fall, and is at present suffering from slight concussion. It is believed that the fall was due to the front sprocket snapping, throwing Mr. Bush head first on to the bitumen. Meditfal aid had to be summoned.
