“DON” EVANS' THANKS

Sir, —On the eve of my departure to the Olympic Games I desire to express my sincere thanks and keen appreciation, first of all to the two good Wanganui ‘‘sports” who have made the trip possible; secondly, to the sporting bodies in our centre; thirdly, to the general public and the Mayor of Taihape for their kind efforts and assistance on my behalf; and last, but certainly not least, to the Press for their kindly references and advocacy to my claims to Dominion representation. 1 do, indeed, keenly appreciate the successful efforts that have been made by all on my behalf. 1 fully recognise the big job 1 have ahead of me, but fit and well, I can only hope that I may be able to repay the confidence that has been reposed in me, and that I may be able to prove myself a worthy representative, both of this centre and of the Dominion. I should also like to express my grateful thanks to my four trainers— Messrs. G. Graham, A. Smith, H. Bray and B. Somerville who have so loyally assisted me both on the track and in the training room. I am sure that I could never have tlone so well had it not been for their ever ready assistance, and I am grateful to them. Trusting that you will kindly publish this letter, and thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc., C. E. (“DON”) EVANS. Taihape, June 13. *
