ALL BLACKS ASSEMBLE HART’S INJURED SHOULDER REPLACEMENT BY BALL. [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 14. The New Zealand Rugby team for the Australian tour is assembling at Wellington to-day, most of the members having arrived this morning. Through a mishop in a club match on Saturday the team is not likely to have the services of G. F. Hart, who was selected for the tour. Hart had a bone in a shoulder fractured on Saturday and after examination it was thought that the injury would not prevent him from being fit for play in about a fortnight. On the strength of this he was ordered to come to Wellington with the other Southern members of the team. Further medical examination of the injured shoulder was carried out to-day and it is understood that the result is that little prospect is held out of Hart being properly fit for play for some weeks. N. Ball (Wellington) has received advice that he has been included in the New Zealand team. Hart remains behind for treatment 'and there is a possibility that, in the event of his being fit in time to 'oin the New Zealand team for some •f its matches, he may be sent to Ausralia.

THE WAIROA UNION WAVERLEY V. RANGITATAU SATURDAY’S MATCH DESCRIBED Waverley met Rangitatau on the Waverley ground on Saturday in their first encounter for the Wairoa Senior Cup. The game, although lacking brilliancy, was packed full of thrills. There were some bright displays of back movements at the end of which the spectators did not feel a sense of disappointment. The lack of cohesion amongst the Rangitatau forwards and the inability of the backs to feed their wingers gave Waverley a clear-cut victory by 21 points to 8. A minute after Rangitatau kicked off the Waverley forwards obtained possession of the ball and, playing in mass formation, carried play well into the visitors’ territory and then transferred to C. Fitzgibbons, their versatile five-eighth, who cut in and passed to Hartley, enabling him to ecore an easy try. The kick added another two points.

Before the visitors realised what had happened Fitzgibbons again secured and, side-stepping his vis-a-vis, crossed over for another easy try. The kick was successful and made the scores 10 to nil. Encouraged by such success, Waverley again drove home their advantage. G. Canterbury, the visitors’ full-back, was by now defending valiantly, and in attempting to stem a dribbling rush made the inevitable error of speculating, whicn the Waverley forwards hurriedly turned to advantage. In their keenness, however, to score, they knocked on, and in the resultant scrummage B. Broughton was penalised. From the free kick Waverley added another 3 points. Waverley again asserted themselves and Walker scored. The kick brought the total up to 18. Stung by such a misfortune, the visitors made a determined rush and soon had the home team on defence. From a melee in the home team’s twenty-five Waverley were penalised, and G. Canterbury made no mistake.—Waverley 18, Kan gitatau 3. To make up the leeway Rangitatau again took play into Waverley’s quarters and only good defensive play by the home team’s full-back kept the visitors from scoring. However, a scrummage near the line gave D. Broughton a chance and, with his characteristic bull-dog determination, he broke through the home defence to score a well-merited try. The kick succeeded. Half-time sounded with the scores reading: Waverley 18, Ran gitatau 8. On resumption of play Waverley again scored. Hare bringing in their fourth try. Another try by Cunningham was disallowed by the referee. From then on the play was more evenly contested and the whistle sounded with the scores unaltered.

Mr. G. Armstrong was referee. Other results were: P.W.D. de feated Waitotara and Kai Twi drew with Ngamatapouri.
