Play in the men’s senior grade hockey games on Saturday on Gonville Park was not of a particularly high order. In the Star-Wesley game much of the play was of the “hit and chase it” type, while in the HinemoaY.M.C.A. match Hinemoa were far below form in the circle, and missed many chances that should have resulted in a difference in the goal score. In .the second half Y.M.C.A. were breaking through the Hinemoa attack, ** and also the defence. Star and Wesley. Star had the better of the opening exchanges of their game with Wesley, but the opposition worked play to the other end, and the ball to Thrush, playing on the left wing. He went into the ciiv’e and shot successfully. Wesley 1, Star 0. For a stage the play was even, and each end saw the ball, but Wesley used their right wing, N. Barlow handling to send on to Warden, who transferred to the circle, Thrush gliding the ball on for another goal. Wesley 2, Star 0. Star woke up and staged a dangerous rush, Orlowski coming infield from the wing and taking the shot. Wesley 2, Star 1. From the bully the Star men again took up the attack, and had the bail about the Wesley circle, but it was transferred to Warden, who passed to N. Barlow, who centred for Keltie to take the shot. Wesley 3, Star 1. Star again attacked from the bully, and Tizard was in the circle. He had two shots, the first being stopped and the second going outside. Another behind followed and two free hits relieved the position for the Wesley men. N. Barlow gained possession to take the ball well up the field but Latham secured and ran from half way solo. The move ended in a corner. Wesley relieved and beyond the half way line Latham passed to Orlowski who had practically an open field. He ran lhe distance on his own and scored. Wesley 3, Star 2. Star evened the score from a bully

Pull scored the first goal for Hinemoa, Pengelly the next and Gurney the third. The second half was far more even and several times the Y.M.C.A. forwards were masters for a short period.
