MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING The weekly practice shoot was held on Monday night. The attendance was only moderate The shooting was below the average, although some of the beginners show further improvement. Detailed scores are as follows:

RUGBY FOOTBALL NOTES AND COMMENTS The games played so far indicate that the senior competition will bo a fairly even one. Last year’s winner (Oroua Downs) started with a reverse, the new club (Taikorea) beating them. The team has evidently been reorganised, as they easily accounted for Rongotea. Taikorea made a promising debut by defeating Oroua Downs,. A loss against Awahuri was followed by a win against Hui Mai. Rongotea have suffered two losses, but with the material available should win games before the season is over. Awahuri have played only one game, defeating Taikorea. The red and blacky, if they are kept together, will keep the rest' of the teams busy. Hui Mai have perhaps the best set of forwards in the district, and properly placed the backs are a useful lot, but it is bad policy to change them about. With any sort of luck the blue and whites will be near the top- at ‘the finish. The junior competition also promises to be even. The new club (Kaimatarau) have a heavier team than the rest, and will go near to winning the shield. Rongotea have a fast, light team and should do well. Oroua Downs have a useful side, and opened well by defeating Kaimatarau. Awahuri opened well by beating a weak Hui Mai team, and this was followed by losses against Kaimatarau and Huia, not a very promising start. Huia should develop a useful team; they did not field a team last year. This may be against them in the early games. Hui Mai stefted badly, but with a little organisation the team is being built up. The players are mostly young, and should work into a good side next year. Stick together blues, and give all the players offering a game in turn. RELIEF CAMP AT MAKOWHAI It is expected that work will be commenced next week. The camp is well situated and. the men already at rhe camp are well satisfied with the conditions. The number at present is about 50, but a further lot are expected next week. TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION Competition games for Saturday are as follows: Senior Rongotea v. Taikorea at Rongotea.
