ANNUAL BIVOUAC
WELLINGTON WEST COAST REGIMENT The annual bivouac of the Wellington West Coast Regiment, which is to be held at Waverley Racecourse from March 7 to 12, promises to be as well attended as can be expected under present conditions. Military training is purely voluntary and the attendance at camp by members of the unit is dependent on leave being granted by employers to their employees for the necessary five days, and it is being found that employers on the whole are making some sacrifice to assist the local unit. This is much appreciated by the authorities, particularly when it is realised that the staff of many firms has been reduced to a minimum- Under these conditions several volunteers have stated their reluctance to approach their employers, but on the whole the situation is being met satisfactorily, and the authorities are hopeful that Wanganui citizens will send their unit to camp with a strength favourable by comparison with other centres throughout the country. Alarton has intimated that its platoon is going up to strength and this is a most creditable effort. It is apparent that the public are behind the volunteer movement and are doing everything to help their own unit. Under these conditions the unit will flourish as public support goes a long way in stimulating all ranks to worthily represent their district in the form of the local regiment.
