Rix, a member of the Canterbury Cricket Association, to the effect that the Old Boys first eleven deliberately tried to lose the match against Sydenham team, was before the Management Committee of the Cricket Association this evening. The captain of the Old Boys Club, Mr. R. C. Burns, had written to the ssociation demanding that Mr. Rix should either withdraw the statement or substantiate it. After discussion, Mr. Rix withdrew the statements unreservedly, saying that he did not realise that his words might be construed as a reflection on the Old Boys Club. The association accepted the withdrawal and carried a resolution that the centre was satisfied that there was nothing improper in the play between Old Boys and Sydenham.
