WORK AMONG FLOWERS

OPERATIONS FOR MONTH Flower garden operations during the present month will mostly consist of routine work, such as hoeing and raking to stir the surface soil and keep down seedling and other weeds and picking off dead flowers. This is important to prolong the flowering period and benefit the plants generally. Tie up dahlias to their supports and regulate their growth by cutting off some of the side branches that crowd the plants. Stake and tic up zinnias and tall growing African and French marigolds. Pinch back several of the bedding plants to keep them dwarf and bushy and within their allotted spaces. Shrubs and trees that were planted during the winter should have tho surface soil immediately around them lightly forked. A mulch of grass clippings or other suitable material placed around them will keep the surface cool and moist and prevent it cracking during dry weather.
