INDIAN GOVERNORSHIP

APPOINTMENTS APPROVED Received Nov. 24, 11.20 p.m. CALCUTTA, Nov. 24. Three new Indian governorships approved by the King are announced. Sir John Anderson is to succeed Sir Stanley Jackson as Governor of Bengal. Sir James Sifton succeeds Sir Hugh Stephenson. Mr. Michael Keane, who was the first president of the reformed Legislative Council, succeeds Sir Lairie Hammond as Governor of Assam. All the choices are regarded as very sound. Most interest attaches to Sir John Anderson, whose appointment breaks tho tradition of sending British politicians to govern Indian prosiden cies. The retiring Governors all finish their terms of office during the early months of 1932.
