DIVE BY MINISTER

HAMILTON SWIMMING BATHS. NOVEL OPENING CEREMONY. HAMILTON, Nov. 21. Appearing in a bathing suit after nc had officially opened the Hamilton High school swimming baths this afternoon, the Minister of Health, the Hon. J. A. Young, gave an appropriate touch io the ceremony by diving into the water and being the first to use the baths. The baths, which are built of concrete, are 100 ft. long and 40ft. wide, and the depth varies from 3ft. 6in. to Bft. The cost was £llOO, exclusive of the excavations, which were done by relief labour. Of the amount mentioned, £3OO was raised by the pupils by means of entertainments, and £lOO was contributed by the Old Boys’ Association. The baths are set in a natural amphitheatre, with a background of trees. Water is supplied by the borough service. There was a large attendance at the opening ceremony. The chairman of the High School Board of Governors, Mr. C. L. Mac Diarmid, spoke of the many improvements that had been made to the High School property in recent years, and said that the baths were an acquisition of which the school had reason to be proud.
