MURDERS IN ENGLAND
FARMER’S WIFE SHOT DEAD
LONDON, Oct. 6. Harold Smith, a youth of 16, who wa e detained near the scene, will be charged with the murder of his aunt, Mrs. Annie Priscilla Jacklin, the wife of a farmer, who was shot dead in bed, the husband being at the same time wounded.
The crime was discovered by Jacklin’' father. That an attempt had been made to burn down the house was apparent. A baby son of the Jacklins was found, cooing 4 4 mamma, ” in a cot beside his murdered mother.
Robert Jacklin, the wounded husband, struggled to a window and cried for help before collapsing. This and two other murders have made a week’s sensation for England. A young woman w’ho, it is nelieved, was the wife of a stoker, was found strangled in an empty shop in Soho, and at Manchester Annie Riley, aged 23, was found strangled in a hotel.
The police are of the opinion that the stoker’s wife lived a double life, visiting London underworld scenes when not living at home.
