They exchanged blows, which landed lightly on the face and body. Sharkey had some difficulty in reaching his opponent but had the better of the fight thus far. In the third round the American was doing well, Primo missing badly. The Italian’s advantage in reach made it impossible for Sharkey to use jabbing tactics. The round was even. Camera went down again but without being hit. Camera now claimed a foul but the referee decliner! to allow it. Sharkey claimed the fight on a foul because Camera fell without being hit. Sharkey started climbing out of the ring but was ordered back by the referee. It was Sharkey’s round.

In the sixth Sharkey was no longer on the aggressive and Camera was scoring with jabs to the body and head. It was Camera’s round. It was Sharkey’s round. The eighth round was even, Sharkey boxing and Camera jabbing. In the ninth round the crowd, not satisfied with the fighters’ manoeuvres, booed for action. Sharkey set Camera back on his heels wit’i a left to the body, followed by three staggering lefts to the face. The Italian’s left eye swelled. It was Sharkey’s round.
