PATEA’S POWER
; LOAN FOR ILLUMINATION RATEPAYERS APPEALED TO Though Patea was the first municipality in New Zealand to adopt electric light, the plant, largely through a dam breaking through, had given successive borough councils a great deal of trouble. Au arrangement has now been entered into between the present council and the South Taranaki Power Board for an extra supply of power. This involves expenditure to transform the installation to make it fit to carry the new load and the ratepayers are to be asked to sanction a loan of £3OOO for this purpose. These facts were referred to yesterday by the Mayor of Patea (Air F. Ramsbottom), when he spoke to welcome the Minister of Health (the Hon. A. J. Young), to the Jubilee celebrations. He said that permission to seek authority for a loan had been granted by the Loans Board “without a tag.” He appealed to the ratepayers to support the proposal and assist the borough to solve a difficult problem.
