FOR FLEMINGTON RACES COMPRIS FOR MELBOURNE CUP. FAST GALLOP AT MENTONE. Received Oct. 13, 10.20 p.m. MELBOURNE, Oct. 13. The impression prevails here that Compris will come for the Melbourne Cup. Picatus galloped eleven furlongs in 2.28 at Mentone, the first five in 1.4 J and a mile in 1.45 A. Minaroa ran a mile in 1.45. Battenburg did a mile in 1.49 J. AUCKLAND RACING CLUB LOSS ON SPRING MEETING REDUCTION IN SUMMER STAKES [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, Oct. 13. A statement of accounts for the recent spring meeting showing a loss, although Government taxation amounted to £5548, was presented to the committee of the Auckland Racing Club. The summer meeting prize-money will be less than that of last year by £5550, the proposed total for the four days being £18,300, against £23,850. The reduction is 23 per cent., which is considerably less than the general drop in the totalisator turnover. NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “Kestrel.”) Next Saturday will find race meetings being held at Avondale (Dargaville fixture), Masterton and Timaru (South Canterbury Club meeting). Marton Spring Meeting. On Wednesday of next week the Marton Jockey Club will hold their spring meeting, this being a one-day fixture. The acceptances are due on Friday night. Waverley Acceptances. The weights for the Waverley Racing Club’s Labour Day meeting will be well discussed, by those interested, and acceptances will close on Monday next at 9 o’clock.
