BACK TO THE KILT

NEW SCOTTISH SLOGAN REVIVAL OF PAST CUSTOMS ‘•Kilts for all” is the slogan of a new movement which has launched a nation-wide drive throughout Scotland to revive the general wearing of the kilt. ( The movement is known as the Scottish Watch,” and considerable progress is being made from the headquarters in Edinburgh. The movement also aims at fostering an appreciation of Scottish literature, the Dorie, and the civil administration of the country. Great interest is being taken in the “Scottish Watch” by the National Party of Scotland. “With the coming o f ‘plus-fours’ the wearing of the kilt seems to have lost favour with the youth of Scotland,” Mr. Dougal Mclntosh, a member of the new movement, said recently. “In Edinburgh particularly almost every young man now wears plus-fours, and our, national garb is seldom seen. „„ , BUt the P assin g of the kilt, certain phases of Scottish character are also dying out, and we mean to make a serious attempt to revive these characteristics. Many who are now wearing the kilt seem to have no idea how it should be worn- At a Highland Games recently I saw a man wearing a kilt with brown boots, and not even spats to cover them “Another bright individual is occahnwL.'Vr" in Edinbnr S h wearing a bowler hat in conjunction with the kilt such as these are almost enough to kill the kilt entirely.”
